UPDATE FROM GALAPAGOS – STARTING WEST TOWARDS TAHITI
We woke this morning to find an e-mail from our agent in French Polynesia saying that we had been cleared to go to Tahiti, possibly via Nuka Hiva. This is very good news and just what we hoped for. We laid out the logic for wanting to make this trip a few days ago. So now it’s action stations, as we complete our preparations.

FROM ST. HELENA TO BRAZIL DUE TO CORONA
Hi Peter, the repair of our Windpilot in St. Helena worked fine during our trip to Brazil where we are now due to the Cornona situation.
We have been sailing around the world and one of the most reliable things we have is a windpilot Pacific plus that is helping us over all oceans, we also have raymarine autopilot that we use only for help if we do a day sailing. Pacific plus is quiet and take no power and fell more reliable. We have lots of time sailing together with friends that only have an electronic autopilot that have failed and they have to hand steer. And if we need support, Peter is always there for a quick response.

LAGEBERICHT VON ARUBA – ABC ISLANDS
Auch wenn wir in Oranjestad im Augenblick alles haben, was wir brauchen, machen mir bestimmte Anzeichen Sorge. Im Hafen liegt eine große Motorjacht eines alten Holländers, der schon vor 15 Jahren nach Aruba gezogen ist. Gestern hat er sich vom Supermarkt große Mengen Nahrungsmittel auf sein Boot liefern lassen. Er meint, dass die Leute im Augenblick noch entspannt seien, weil sie noch Geld haben. Das wäre in ein bis zwei Monaten anders. In der Innenstadt gibt es praktisch kein Geschäft mehr, das nicht die Schaufenster mit Brettern vernagelt hätte.

First, no worries about our health. Bundaberg, where we are based, is a city of approximately 93,000. To the best of our knowledge, there have been only two confirmed cases of the illness here, both treated in hospital, neither fatal. Moreover, the BUNDABERG marina where we are based is ten miles outside town and very isolated. The wet season over and the sweltering heat of February behind us, the weather in Bundaberg is as blue and beautiful as it appears in the video. Temperatures are in the mid-80s, our portholes are open to the breeze, and though the mozzies persist, living aboard is once again quite comfortable.

Hallo Herr Förthmann, habe eine noch handgefertigte Pazifik von Ihnen. Zuerst einmal 1000 Dank für dieses Gerät, das uns 5 mal Karibik und zurück gesteuert hat, und schon davor auf einer LM 30 gute Dienste geleistet hat. Jetzt ist sie auf unserer Reinke Euro montiert, eines der wenigen Ausrüstungsteile, die immer (!) ihren Dienst getan hat und noch tut. Bei Flaute und Motorfahrt sind wir allerdings auf unseren schwachen Raymarine Pinnenpiloten (ST 4000) angewiesen. Vier von dessen Antrieben haben wir schon verschlissen, und nur von Hand zu steuern geht es, wenn wir mal gegen Wind und See steuern müssen. Weiterlesen

Dear Peter, after >20000 nm and some ocean crossings our Windpilot Pacific needs some repacements. Specialy the moving parts made of plastic and the protection cap. We are in Martinique now, in feb we are in Guadeloupe for two weeks, is there any supplier here for spare parts or is it better to have them taken by somebody from holland? The parts I am looking for are upper / lower cardanic joints and the red cap 320. Can you send me an offer and advise for delivery? Thank you for your respons!

Moin Herr Foerthmann, es war mitten in der Nacht auf der Biskaya: plötzlich ein lauter Knall und dann Geklapper am Mast. Was war los? Im Licht des Scheinwerfers wurde es schnell klar. Ein Zwischenwant war gebrochen. Direkt oberhalb der ersten Saling. Nun knallte es immer und immer wieder gegen den Mast.
